World Book Day??

23 April 2020

The idea of commemorating World Book Day has its origins in Spain, in the area of Catalonia, where the buyer of a book was given a rose.
April 23 is associated with the death of two colossi of world literature: William Sheakspire in England and Miguel de Cervantes in Spain. On the same date, 1616, Cervantes, Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega, nicknamed Inca left this world. April 23 also marks the birth or the death of other writers, such as Maurice Druon, K. Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Joseph Pla and Manuel Mejia Vallejo.
April 23 has been declared World Book Day and Copyright Day, on the 15th November 1995, with a UNESCO resolution, after taking into account the facts that the book has been, historically, the most powerful instrument of knowledge dissemination and the most effective tool to ensure the preservation of this knowledge, and that any initiative to promote new books is a cultural enrichment factor etc.
Every year on April 23 the celebrations are held all over the world, thus recognizing the magical power of books, a connection between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and cultures different.
Unable to organize any activities, for World Book Day as it used to be organized the past years, today in the subject of Albanian language, with students of 8th and 9th grades and Albanian language teacher Shpresa Morina, an activity was realized for World Book Day, within the possibilities that virtual learning gives us.
In this activity the students offered us pleasure with data about: World Book Day; research on prominent figures from various fields: science, art, music and literature; essays written by them, poetry, songs and quotes about books.
Just as many wise and knowledgeable people have considered, we too have fully agreed with the view that: “The book is the most powerful instrument that has served to change humanity ”, we have also set a goal for ourselves, that “by reading books, we also are going to be part of this change in humanity.”
